Why this rating
Switzerland is one of the safest destinations for tourists (US Level 1), with natural hazards the main official concern. A UN expert group found in 2022 that Black people face racial profiling and brutal arrests and called for urgent action on anti-Black racism, and in 2024 the European Court of Human Rights ruled against Switzerland over a racially discriminatory police ID check in Zurich. Switzerland is not covered by FRA's survey.
