Why this rating
The US raised Oman to Level 3 (Reconsider Travel) over drone and missile risk following the 2026 US–Iran hostilities, with the Yemen border at Level 4; the FCDO has no area warnings but notes Iranian strikes across the region since July. Oman has a sizeable Afro-Omani population, with around five per cent of citizens Swahili-speaking, and a Black American traveller (Being Black In, 2019) reported feeling welcome and unremarkable. Evidence on Black visitors is limited, so confidence is low.
