Why this rating
Norway is a US Level 1 destination where violent crime is uncommon. A UN Working Group visit (report December 2023) found that people of African descent face racial profiling, hate speech and discrimination, and noted that 55% of 2022 hate-speech cases targeted skin colour, hair type or ethnic origin. People of African descent make up about 16% of immigrants, and a Black American expat interviewed by Travel Noire (2021) described daily life as less stressful than in the US while acknowledging racism exists.
