Why this rating
The US rates Nicaragua Level 3, warning that its nationals face a serious risk of wrongful detention, and the FCDO says foreigners can be arrested or deported for any political activity; there is no UK embassy in the country. The Caribbean coast has a long-established Creole community centred on Bluefields, but Minority Rights Group reports racial profiling of Creoles by security forces, and the UN CERD (2022) raised concern over structural discrimination against Afro-descendants.
