Why this rating
Mongolia is US Level 1 with no FCDO warnings, but OSAC (2025) reports that ultranationalist groups sometimes carry out premeditated attacks on foreigners, with foreign men most at risk late at night in bars, especially with Mongolian women. The FCDO notes foreigners have been assaulted and robbed in Ulaanbaatar. Black visitors are rare; one Black traveller (2022) described staring born of unfamiliarity rather than hostility.
Official advice: FCDO: no advice against travel (updated 7 Aug 2026); US Level 1
