The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to parts of Laos, notably Xaisomboun Province, and the US rates it Level 2 for civil unrest. Al Jazeera (2025) reported Ghanaian and Ugandan men trafficked into scam centres in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone via fake job offers. An Essence feature described Lao people as respectful, but evidence on Black tourists is limited and confidence is low.
