Why this rating
The FCDO says Honduras has one of the highest violent crime rates in Latin America, and the US rates it Level 3 with Gracias a Dios at Level 4, though police estimate homicides fell to 15.3 per 100,000 in 2025 (HRW). The Afro-Indigenous Garifuna are the largest ethnic minority and, with Bay Island Creoles, give the coast a strong Black presence, but the UN and HRW document discrimination and land-rights violations against them. There is little reporting of hostility towards Black tourists.
