Why this rating
Afro-Guyanese made up about 29% of the 2012 census and mixed-race people a further 20%, so Black visitors are not conspicuous, and Travel Noire highlights Black-owned businesses in Georgetown. The US rates Guyana Level 3 because violent crime including murder and armed robbery is common, and FCDO notes low police capacity. Ethnic politics between Indo- and Afro-Guyanese communities is tense, with 2023 allegations of state discrimination against Afro-Guyanese, but this is not directed at visitors.
