The US rates Guatemala Level 3 for crime and terrorism, with San Marcos, Huehuetenango and parts of Guatemala City at Level 4, and the FCDO advises against all but essential travel near the Mexican border. The Garifuna make up about 1% of the population, and Minority Rights Group reports widespread discrimination against them; Travel Noire notes Garifuna residents of Livingston report discrimination. Evidence specific to Black tourists is limited.
