Why this rating
Gabon is majority-Black and we found no documented hostility towards Black visitors, but also little Black-traveller reporting, so confidence is low. The US rates it Level 2 for unrest and crime, and the FCDO warns of assaults on taxi passengers and says some tourists have been detained and had passports confiscated since the 2023 coup. Gabon suspended visas for US citizens from January 2026 in reciprocity for US entry restrictions.
