Why this rating
FCDO advises against all travel to seven eastern provinces and areas near the CAR border, and the US raised the DRC to Level 4 in July 2026, citing an Ebola outbreak declared a WHO public health emergency in May 2026 alongside crime, kidnapping and wrongful detention. The population is majority-Black, but Kinshasa has seen violent anti-embassy protests and criminals posing as police targeting foreigners.
