Why this rating
Cyprus was returned to US Level 1 in June 2026 after a period at a higher level during the US-Iran hostilities, and general crime against tourists is low. In April 2026 UN CERD experts said anti-Black racism had become increasingly visible and that police and immigration officers reportedly used ethnic profiling; in August–September 2023 masked mobs attacked migrants in Chloraka and Limassol. The score reflects repeated, recent evidence of racist violence despite a safe tourist baseline.
