Why this rating
Around 52% of residents identified as Black alone in the 2016 census, and Travel Noire and Essence promote Black-owned businesses in Hamilton. The US rates Bermuda Level 1 and FCDO describes crime as moderate, including some weapons incidents. Academic research (Jeffries, 2022) documents persistent structural racism, including a large Black–White wealth gap and de facto segregation, though evidence of hostility towards Black visitors is lacking.
