Why this rating
Angola is majority-Black and has actively connected with African Americans: its president invited descendants of the first enslaved Africans brought to Virginia in 1619, who visited in 2021. We found no documented hostility towards Black visitors, but general safety lowers the score. The US advises reconsidering travel to greater Luanda because of armed robbery, and at least 22 people died in fuel-price riots in July 2025.
